Oor Wullie & The Broons are here
The first ever screenprints for Scotland's favourite son, Oor Wullie, and the country's best-loved family, The Broons, are now available.
In a survey carried out in 2004, as part of Tartan Day celebrations, (see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/3601143.stm) Oor Wullie came top ahead of William Wallace, Sean Connery and Ewan McGregor.
The Broons and Oor Wullie have been printed every week in The Sunday Post, a weekly newspaper in Dundee, since 8 March 1936 when they were drawn by legendary cartoonist Dudley D Watkins who continued drawning them until 1969.
I'm delighted to have use of the characters in my screenprints, as there are many beautifully drawn panels - Watkins was a wonderful draftsman and a master of composition - so they are a joy to make screenprints from.
The original strips were printed in black and white and I have generally added some colour either with a half-tone or spot colour.
I've started with a small selection of prints showing Oor Wullie and The Broons in characteristic activities but there will be more to come.
