Commando and Victor

Commando pocket-sized comics have been printed since the early 1960s and are still going strong.

They tell stories about military heroism but also about the conflicts and confusions of war. I have chosen panels because they reflect this as well as because they are strong images and have memorable speech bubbles.

Some of these images are taken from The Victor, a boys' adventure comic which was published between 1961 and 1992, by which time it was the last of its kind.
