What is an original print?
My screenprints are original prints, works of art created by hand and printed by hand from stencils created by me for the sole purpose of producing the image.
I am using DC Thomson's comics or the Popeye cartoons as the basis for my screenprints, but they are then reworked and transformed by the screenprinting process.
They are not just copies, which might be just a photo-mechanical reproduction - in other words no more than a poster.
In a discussion of the difference between an original print and a copy, the website for Studio 1617 (http://www.studio1617.com/prints.htm) puts it very well. It says: "The element of the artist's direct control and manipulation of the medium is probably the key as to whether a print is an Original Print or not."
